Thomas Edison and Henry Ford were two of America’s most famous and well-respected inventors. They chose to spend their winters in Florida in the late 1880s, which paved the way for the tourism boom in the state.

Eventually, Edison built a beautiful vacation home called Seminole Lodge, located along the Caloosahatchee River. He invited many people to visit over the years, including Henry Ford.

In 1916, Ford bought the home next door and called it The Mangoes. Today, you can visit these incredible historic homes, stroll the gardens, and even check out the Edison laboratory.

The staff here is extremely friendly and enthusiastic, and it’s a great place to take the kids, especially if it’s raining. There are tons of fun activities that adults and kids alike will enjoy.

Daytime Activities in Fort Myers

If parks or dodge ball aren’t your thing, there are plenty of other daytime activities to enjoy here. Take a stroll along the area’s many beaches, go for a swim, or grab a towel and simply sunbathe.

Cayo Costa Beach is off the beaten path and offers amazing views and a great place to collect some seashells. You can also check out Manatee Park, offering free admission and a chance to see these amazing creatures up close.

Nightlife in Fort Myers

Start your adventure at the Fort Myers Brewing Company, one of the first local breweries in the area. With over 20 taps, beer aficionados are sure to find their new favorite brew.

You can also enjoy watching sports on one of the brewery’s many TVs, play oversized Jenga with your friends, or take part in the bean bag toss. The chill vibe will keep you there for hours, and you can even bring your own lawn chair if you want to hang outside.

If you want something a bit wilder, check out the Buddha Rock Club. This former Chinese restaurant is now one of the most popular bars in the entire Fort Myers area and features a giant Buddha statue so you can’t miss it.

Check out Buddha’s extensive drink menu and check out a live performance if you can. Many local bands enjoy performing here as well as some national acts who may be touring in the area.
